Podcast ranking feature - SoundOn

Problem
Users stick with certain podcasts, which limits the DAU growth
Users tend to stick to 1-3 podcasts because they have difficulty exploring and finding their loved podcasts. To listeners, they would miss many excellent podcasts fitting their tastes; to podcasters, their brilliant works could not reach their potential listening volume.
User research & findings
With a Google Survey method targeting 110 of our app users, we could identify user preferences and understand key factors to consider before launching the service.

Design challenges & solutions
1. The dominant podcasts
Some podcasts are so popular that they are always on the rank. This would decrease the variety of the ranking feed to some degree. To fix this, we decide to change the "the most popular podcast tab" to "the most rapidly grown podcast" tab.
2. The financial podcast rank
To make our ranking feature richer, we decide to create another ranking sub-group. After observation, we noticed that listeners in Taiwan prefer financial-related podcasts most, so we added ranking tabs “most popular financial podcast tab” and “most rapid grown financial podcast tab ”
Learning & Takeaway
This experience taught me the product development process, from defining a problem to launching the final feature. I have also learned to work closely across different functions, including designers, PMs, and developers. The real-world product development experience totally inspires me and pushes me toward becoming a UX designer.
